Lead Climbing Class

Lead Climbing Class Lead Climbing Class is designed to teach the fundamentals of lead climbing in a safe environment.  Students will learn how to place protection using both traditional and sport climbing methods while on top rope.  This class is taught by Scott Harris.  The Mountain Madness owner has climbed hundreds of multi-pitch climbs in Colorado and Europe up to the 2,000’ ultra-classic Italian route “Tofana de Roses” in just one day!

Lead Climbing Class Once the leader has gained the top of the climb and is clipped correctly to the anchors Scott will assess and critique the protection after which the top rope will be removed and the students will complete the climb using their lead rope.

Lead Climbing Class Rope management at hanging belays will be taught - from leading, belaying a second and finally with two climbers at the belay.  Rope management at belays is crucial to reduce time spent between pitches.  If you can save ten minutes at each belay the time needed to complete a five pitch route is reduced by almost an hour.

Lead Climbing Class And finally, after the second has gotten to the belay and the rope has been lowered for rappelling, the climbing team will descend to the ground.
