Beginning Climbing and Rappelling
Our most popular course, Enchanted Rock Climbing 1 is for beginners, climbers with some experience, and gym climbers wanting to climb outdoors.
We set up routes of varying difficulties so that everyone will be challenged.
We can even add Climbing 2 students to this class with advanced notice if the Climbing 2 dates don’t work with your schedule.
Students learn the fundamentals of face and crack climbing and apply their knowledge on a series of roped climbs that range in height from 30 to 100 feet.
One day is spent climbing in Echo Canyon and the other on the tall faces on the back of the main dome.
On Day One we hand out gear in the parking lot and hike to the climbing area.
Once there we begin climbing and rappelling.
Students climb in groups of three and we have a six to one student to guide ratio ensuring lots of individual attention!
You will learn how to use your climbing shoes correctly as well as many other climbing techniques that you will apply to the fun faces and cracks that we set up.
Most students will do five or six climbs and three rappels on our first day of class!
On Day Two we apply the climbing techniques learned the day before.
Proper climbing technique is a must as you ascend the tall face climbs on the Backside of the Main Dome.
Smearing, edging, lay backing and mantling will all come into play as you climb the 90’ tall faces.
Tremendous views can be had from the top of the climbs.
After completing the weekend program you will have the arsenal of weapons needed to climb anywhere and on any type of rock.
Graduates of our Enchanted Rock Climbing 1 class can move on to any of our more advanced classes.
Many students move right into the Anchoring & Lead Climbing class to learn how to set protection and combine it into anchors so that they can begin climbing on their own.
